Hi all,

I've go this warning light on the dash, indicating a problem with either the generator or aircooling. I've trouble-shot it down the fuse board to the dash. I'm quite gung-ho and have plumbed to remove the entire dash, I can clean the bug along the way, and learn how she ticks. I've hit a wall though, I can't remove the upper coupling half on the steering column (I might have muddled my jargon, I'm still learning).

It's a 1973 1303 RHD Beetle, here's the pics:-

The beetle has been having some work done to it after I had a little accident at the start of the summer, so while it was having that fixed I figured I'd get a few other bits and bobs done and a respray but things are worse than expected.

Basically it potentially needs new heater channels both sides and the part of the floor that fits to the heater channels replacing (but will probably end up needing a completely new floor pan ). It has already had work on the front end to replace the accident ...

My bro is looking at some new wheels for his '70 volksrod project.

They are 5 hole x 4 1/2" PCD pattern (is this the same as a late bay?) with a distance of 120mm from the back of the mounting plate to the rear of the rim.

Which is the best way to get them to fit a beetle with 4x130 pcd?

The rear are drums so could they be drilled out? The front has has discs so assume these would have to be adapters.

Would it be better with adapters all round? If so any ...

Hi Guys

I've got an oil leak at rear of my 69 bay (type1) engine.

It appears to be coming from behind the pulley wheel and when the engine is at higher revs it's worse.

Could it be crank pressure?

It was align bored when re-built (1776cc), is there a seal behind the pulley that can be replaced?

Any ideas much appreciated.

Cheers

i) Ventilation: The ventilation in the cab is shot, it's pumping out hot air all the time. I'm sure this is just a broke cable, or plastic part, spring, etc, but I can't find any maintenance manuals [Ed. I found a tiny section in the Haynes manual. Might have a poke around]. Can anyone post an informative URL (or similarly useful info)?

Drivin to work today and noticed an unusual rumble and some brake noise from the rear and found the rear hub had a load of movement in it

Got to work and removed the split pin and the nut was about finger tight !!!!!!!!

What would cause this to become so loose .... with the pin still in situe ??

Ive rattled it up with an air gun for the time being and put a new pin in which has taken most of the noise away

I assume the wheel bearing must be fooked again .... but how would ...

Hey all

Chong (the bug) is running like a large sack of turd! its missing quite a lot at low revs and seems to be getting quite hot even on short (5miles) journeys! at higher revs its OK and pulls ok! Dont think i'd be happy driving it to whitenoise unless I can get it sorted so hope it something simples!

Think the fuel filter could do with changing but that wouldnt make it run hot would it! Any ideas?

Thanks for any advice!

Leisure battery supplier?

I have someone who is going to fit a leisure battery system into my split.

I just need to buy the battery itself.

Can anyone recommend somewhere locally for a battery, I guess buying on line delivery would be expensive?

Is there anything in particular I need to consider when buying one, Size etc.

Aiming to fit it in the dead space on the opposite side to the regular battery (Left hand side in front of the taillights)

Thanks in advance.
