Figured it's not too big a job to just copy and paste stuff from vzi into a proper thread here, so here goes!!

So here's Eddie the 1972 1300 mongrel Beetle, with pre 67 bits and bobs and long bonnet, sloping lights and apparantly on a 1200 base so I found out yesterday

On his way to a new loving home!

Non standard front end!

Evidence of his previous colour schemes. Looks quite funky actually :hippy:

Bad bits next!!

If you guys can be off assistance to me please do not be shy in coming forward I am very new to dubz (as Fish will confirm)

More to follow later

anyway here is some piccies of the car when I went to view it in London

As mentioned in other posts it's not as good as it looks in the pictures - and the build quality is chronic as you will see from the pictures when posted

Well its been about 60hours of welding so far for our welder and all is begining to look brighter for her outer appearance, even though it is underneath!

She was in a far worse condition than what we thought, however we was not going to give up on her, so biting the bullet as they say the project got started.

Heres a few pics of what we saw, so just imagine what we then found, 37years of rust as not looked after. Hence a new eire, all new crossmembers, chassis, tophats, riggers, jacking ...

Bit rough but it aint gonna be visible. Very thin tin.

Also got the broken half of the key out of the ignition barrel.

What a cufuffle that was! The new key works though so it was worth it.

Oh, drilled out the rest of the battery tray ready for the new one. Just got to work out how to fit the rear corner. Any clues anyone?

I am thinking (only thinking!) about selling the beetle and getting a camper. I was wondering if anyone as any advise on what model age etc to go for. I wouldn't mind something late. Also any advise on what I would have to pay to get something decent!

also are the water-cooled vans much harder to work on than aircooled?

My Bus is currently down at the workshops of the one and only T2D near Newmarket for fitment of a 2007cc engine and bearsmotorsport gearbox. Its also having a full flow oil system fitted and the suspension tweaked a little (downward that is) as well as a few other odds and sods to get it another MOT.

Latest progress is on T2D staff member 'Beakers' blog - http://beakersblog.skynetblogs.be/

All being well it should be up and running next week, then the fun starts!

First were the passenger side sills and the remains of the rear cab step.

Then onto the floor and this goes back under the bed as an additional storage space but as the tilt bolt holes in the bed were open this has allowed the water in that has caused the rot to this floor and the sills.

so all effected metal was removed and believe me some was like tinfoil ...

I've been getting bored with the look of the bug so today i made a start on changing it. The plan is to put a set of 4.5 inch chromes on the front with smart car tyres then drop at as much as i can and also drop the back a spline or two.

So far i've ordered the wheels and i've also removed the t-bars and replaced them with bumpers and over riders. here is a few pictures so far she should be all finished by the weekend.

I'm not sure if i like the spot light tho.

toying with the idea of getting a type 4 van and converting it.

dont want anything flash with gas and running water.

just something like a day van... as long as its got a bed and some seats, poss a bit of storage. any pitfalls you think.

this would involve me selling herman but thats fine with me as i dont do the miles anymore.

maybe get an awning to go with it.

seen some vans on ebay going for about a grand.... whats the cost of convertion normaly.

After a much longer than anticipated stay on my drive way, I got the call at 9am this morning to say the truck was on its way to collect the 1969 Beetle for restoration.

Thirty minutes later, and it was ready to go...

There's a lot to do, but this is a big step in the right direction, as my father-in-law is taking on the welding at his workshop down the road.
